Abel D. Garcia, age 83, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and formerly of Wells, Nevada, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, in Las Vegas.
Born on May 14, 1942, in Del Norte, Colorado, Abel was the beloved son of Joseph D. Garcia and Annie Chacon Garcia. He grew up in Wells, Nevada, where he attended high school before proudly enlisting in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. Abel served his country with honor, pride, and an unwavering sense of duty.
Following his military service, Abel continued his education in auto body repair and built a long, dedicated career in the field. He also attended the Police Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada, and went on to work for the Elko County Sheriff’s Department in Wells for several years. During his time in Wells, Abel coached and sponsored the local boxing club, where he mentored and trained many young people in the community—something he took great pride in.
He retired from his auto body career at the age of 62, but Abel was never one to slow down. He later worked as a school crossing guard for the Clark County School District, a role he cherished deeply. The children and parents adored him, and each Christmas he looked forward to the heartfelt cards and gifts they lovingly shared. Abel was also an active and valued member of the Pacific Legends East Homeowners Association.
Abel met the love of his life, Rose M. Hernandez, in a small Las Vegas club—an encounter that blossomed into an instant and lifelong love story. They married on December 12, 1965, at the Little White Chapel on Las Vegas Boulevard. Their nearly 60-year marriage stood as a beautiful example of devotion, partnership, and unconditional love.
Abel will be remembered for his warm personality, his gift for storytelling, and his steadfast honesty. He loved deeply, lived fully, and touched the lives of countless family members, friends, neighbors, and community members. He will forever be loved and profoundly missed.
Abel is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose M. Garcia; his parents, Joe and Annie Garcia; his sisters, Geraldine and Margie Garcia; and his brother, Paul Garcia.
He is survived by his children, David D. Garcia and Dara A. Garcia; his cherished granddaughter, Emily Jane Rose Garcia; and two step-granddaughters, Lisa Whitehead Gandolfo and Christina Whitehead Dixon.
