Brent Jones Shaw, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 31, 2018, from
cardiac arrest in his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. Brent was born July 26, 1978, at Lakeview
Hospital in Bountiful, Utah. Brent spent his formative years in Kaysville, Utah, Albuquerque,
New Mexico, and Denver, Colorado, where he graduated from Arvada High School in 1997.
Number five of six children, Brent was the social glue of his large family. Known for his quirky
sense of humor and trademark laugh, Brent never had an unkind word, and he could be trusted
to help others in need. Brent spent countless hours babysitting his nieces and nephew, ferrying
ailing family friends to oncology appointments, and helping his parents and siblings with various
projects. Brent met the love of his life, Emi Ikeda in 2006. Brent and Emi moved to Las Vegas
in 2008, when Emi began her doctoral work in mathematics at UNLV. Brent graduated with his
degree in accounting in 2014 from UNLV, and was a few semester hours shy of a master's
degree in accounting. Brent was employed by Affinity Gaming as an internal audit coordinator
at the time of his death, and worked with many great friends he had met during his
undergraduate program at UNLV. Brent loved cars, the Miami Dolphins, and his eclectic
collectibles. Brent died too soon, and his family members and friends are devastated by this
loss. He is survived by his beautiful partner, Emi; parents Kenton Scott Shaw and Joy Shaw
(Jones); siblings, Joylynn Boardman (Ian Boyd), Glenn Boardman and Mauricio Palacio, Janet
Van Scoyk, (Mark), Scott Shaw, (Kerrie), Bryan Shaw (Kathy), and his beloved baby sister,
Elizabeth Shaw. His nieces and nephews, Isaac and Kaitlynn Boardman, Morgan, Graham, and
Audrey Boyd, Taylor and Maddie Shaw, Grayden Guilford, Pearlie and Xavier Funchess, and
BobbieJo and Destany Shaw. Brent had many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who also
mourn his passing. Brent's temporal remains were be interned in Otto, Wyoming Cemetery,
where his relatives have been laid to rest, and there will be a celebration of life held in Brent's
honor on September 15, 2018, from 2-5 at the Sunset Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada,
Brent's favorite haunt. In lieu of flowers, please bring a card to the celebration of life, as Brent
enjoyed receiving birthday cards.
I shall know why-when Time is over-
And I have ceased to wonder why-
Christ will explain each separate anguish
In the fair schoolroom of the sky-
He will tell me what ""Peter"" promised-
And I -for wonder at his woe-
I shall forget the drop of Anguish
That scalds me now-that scalds me now!
