Bruno James Zawacki

Bruno James Zawacki, of Chicago Illinois, passed away on September 15th, 2018 in Las Vegas Nevada.

Bruno was born in Chicago Illinois to Lawrence and Lorraine Zawacki on July 4th, 1947.

Bruno attended St. John Brebeuf a Catholic school for elementary and middle school. He went to Notre Dame all boys catholic high school his freshman year. Bruno finished high school at Maine East where he graduated from. He joined the Air Force after high school. Bruno was also in the Vietnam War. On May 20th 1978 he married Marykathryn Pratt. Bruno has been stationed in different countries from Vietnam, Japan, England and throughout the United States. In July of 1990 he retired from the military overseas in England, but was hoping to be recalled for the Gulf War; however, that never happened but that's okay. He started working for the United Postal Service after retirement until a position opened up at Oakton Community College. When Bruno turned 55 he decided it was time to retire completely and move to Las Vegas Nevada. While being in the Air Force Bruno has received decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons awarded to him. Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters, AF Training Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, AF Distinguished-Presidential Unit Citation, AF Outstanding Unit Award with Valor and one oak leaf cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, AF Good Conduct Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Bruno served 21 years and 10 months as a Munitions Systems Technician. We have also come to learn that Bruno designed one of the patches the ""F111E WARSAW PACT CENTRAL HEATING"" while he was stationed in Upper Heyford England. They actually liked his design so they paid him for it. Which his true passion was art and while he was working at Oakton he took numerous art classes to better his technique.

Bruno James Zawacki is preceded in death by Lawrence James Zawacki his father, Lorraine Janes his mother, Chuck August Janes his stepfather, Fred Miller his Uncle, Fred Jr. Miller his cousin, his grandparents that he's always held closely to his heart, Ira James Pratt his father-in-law, Raymond Pratt his brother-in-law, Bear and Diesel his beloved dogs…

Bruno is survived by his wife Marykathryn Zawacki, which they had three children Jim Pratt, Bruno Jr. Zawacki, and Kimberly Zawacki. Bruno had two brothers not by blood Mike Nawiesniak and Kenneth Pokrywka that he loved as his own family. His grandchildren Brandy Rubin and William Brewer. His daughter-in-law Becky Zawacki and her mother Donna Walton. His sister-in-laws Lynn Dohme, Martha, Ingerlise Pratt and his brother-in-laws James ""Vinton"" Pratt and David Dohme also Denny Dohme. His nieces and nephews Beth, Davey, Christopher, Stephanie, Alan, Grace, and all their children and their children to come. Sally Nawiesniak with daughters Myla and Iris also Cedar Iris's son. Kenneth's brother Peter and Ken's wife Lori and their whole family so many to list. Bruno's Aunt Loretta and all of his Chicagoland family. All of Bruno's Vegas family and friends. His Ammo Squad, Military and Oakton family. Last but not least Baxter his cat that misses him like crazy.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday October 1st 2018 at Davis Funeral home where we can share memories and love for eachother together at this time of need. Burial will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City at 1:20. Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home. Proceeding after the burial, all is welcome to join together at Sunset Station for a late lunch or early dinner.

Pallbearers will be the Honor Guards with the twenty-one gun salute to follow.

The family of Bruno James Zawacki wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Davis Funeral home for helping us get through this. Our family and friends for getting us through this heartbreaking time and for always being there no matter what. You all mean the world to us and we love each and everyone of you. Love you all….
