Carmelita Carbonell-Lopez

Carmelita Carbonell- Lopez, 75, was called to her resting place on December 24, 2022.  She was known in the community by her nickname, Mellette.  She entered this world on May 16, 1947 in Manila, Philippines, born to Amando and Agustina Carbonell.

Mellette was married to her high school sweetheart, Isagani Lopez, for almost 56 years. Together they raised four children: Roman (Michelle) Lopez, Lisa (Chris) Sanglay, Carisa (Rich) Lopez-Ramirez and Carlo (Brandi) Lopez.  She loved taking care of her 11 grandchildren (Fidgi, Carla, Bea, Alec, Dylan, Kaitlynne, Ariana, Caden, Gabriel, Ethan, and Alexa) and her 4 great-grandchildren (Emi, Luna, Xavier and Reishi).

In the Philippines, Mellette served as a professor and a medical technologist.  She gave up her professional career to move to the United States in 1983 to provide a better future for her family.   She started her career here taking care of children and ended her career working for the restaurant industry for over 20 years.  She was also an entrepreneur by heart.  She had no regrets seeing what her family has accomplished over the years.

Mellette never passed on the opportunity to help someone in need. Because of this, in lieu of flowers, her family requests that a donation be made to Avenue Church Legacy Fund at https://avenuelv.churchcenter.com/giving/to/legacy-offering
