Charlene “Chon” Burk Goodman (one month shy of 90), loving wife to Kent E Goodman, and beloved mother to Sherry Goodman Billings, Michael Ken Goodman, and Christopher Alyn Goodman, passed away in their home in Henderson, Nevada on June 12, 2025, from natural causes.
Chon was born July 30, 1935, in Springerville, Arizona. She was the fourth child, the youngest (three older brothers, Mervin, Dennis, and Evan), and only girl born to Vera Lund Burk Lesueur and Charles Frederick Burk.
Chon attended Round Valley High School and enjoyed all her years of school, but admits that she enjoyed the extra activities more than academics. She was a cheerleader and enjoyed all sports including bowling, and as an adult threw a 230 game in a tournament. Chon was also musically talented. She sang and played piano and loved singing in duets, trios, quartets, and choruses with her cousins.
In 1948, while she was with her cousin at the Modern Store in Eagar she saw the cutest boy and she stated that “she was going to go with him when she got in high school”. She not only dated, but married Kent E Goodman on September 20, 1953. Chon and Kent celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 20, 2023.
Chon attended college courses and worked at Motorola as a secretary to support Kent until he graduated. Kent and Chon moved 50 times over 44 years; all over Arizona, Southern California, Southern Utah, plus Iran and Saudi Arabia before settling in Henderson, Nevada.
Chon was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. She held a calling wherever they lived and was determined to keep the family active and involved. She was an exceptional example both spiritually and temporally. She loved our family as well as her large, extended family. Our beloved mother and wife will be deeply missed.
Chon is preceded in death by her mother Vera Lesueur, father Charles Burk, step-father Calvin Lesueur, as well as brothers Mervin Burk and Dennis Burk.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Kent E Goodman, children, Sherry (Jack) of Anchorage, Alaska, Mike (Kari) of Irvine, CA, and Chris of Henderson, NV, her dear brother Evan Burk (Diane), 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28 at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints church on 410 N. Valle Verde Drive, Henderson, NV 89014. A
