Charles “Chuck” Gorton, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on the 29th of April, 2025, at home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Chuck was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Charles Gorton, Sr. and Hilda Gorton nee Baldwin on the 9th of December, 1934.
He enlisted and served actively in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958, and is a veteran of the Korean War. Chuck worked for the Air Force as a civilian for the remainder of his career, retiring in 1990. While enlisted, he attended West Texas State University, there meeting his first wife, Louise Higdon Gorton (since deceased); together they had two sons. In 1969, he married Nancy Tabbert Gorton; together they had a daughter. Chuck later completed his college career at Eastern Illinois University. For the majority of his career, he worked at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas.
Chuck loved to laugh, was great fun to be around, and to watch sports of most any kind (though the Steelers and Pirates were always favored). He was famous for tales of his youth, regaling all that would listen, including often stories of a solo, cross country motorcycle trip between his junior and senior year in high school.
Chuck lived his values. He was a member and participant in a number of churches. Chuck practiced his faith quietly yet steadfastly.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy, a son, Scott Gorton, and a brother, William “Bill” Gorton.
Chuck is survived by: a son and his wife, Jeffrey and Linda Gorton, a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Martin Elge, siblings: Sylvia Smith, Nancy Shirley, Kenneth Gorton, and Susan Brooks, grandchildren: Paul Gorton, William Gorton, Alexis Elge, Daniella Elge, Andrew Boylan, and Rebecca Moorman, and great grandchildren; Olivia and Owen Gorton.
