Darrell Cheatem, 70, beloved son, uncle, and friend, was called to his eternal resting place on March 23, 2026. He was born on September 18, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, to Felton and Ann Cheatem.

Darrell received his education at South Shore High School in Chicago, Illinois. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. During his service, he earned commendation medals and remained a strong supporter of veteran causes throughout his life.

Known for his sharp mind, strong personality, and unforgettable sense of humor, Darrell left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a deep love for music, especially Tupac, and enjoyed watching sports, particularly boxing and basketball. He was a man of strong convictions—stubborn at times, yet deeply principled—and always remained true to himself.

His playful spirit brought joy to those around him. He would often joke with his nieces and nephews that if they wanted to take a picture of him, they would have to “speak to his agent” first, creating moments of laughter that his family will cherish forever.

One family memory often recalled is from his youth, when he ran away from home and his brother Michael was sent to find him and bring him back. It is a story that reflects his spirited nature and the deep bonds that connected his family throughout his life.

Though he was not religious, Darrell valued his independence, individuality, and authenticity. Even in difficult moments, he remained steadfastly himself. Despite the tragic nature of his passing, his family finds comfort in knowing how deeply he loved them.

He is survived by his nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many loved ones who will miss him dearly.
