Our mother, wife, sister, and friend, Deborah Jean McCoy graduated from this world December 9, 2025 to join her loved ones who have passed before. Everyone who knew her knows that she made our lives brighter, better, and filled every moment with joy that will never fade.
Deby was born August 24, 1951 to Dale Scott Hancock and Zoma Loretta Young. She married William Thomas McCoy in November 1975. Together they had two children: Rick (Angie) McCoy and Crystal (Chris) Hoover, five grandchildren: Haley Hoover, Carson McCoy, Lauren McCoy, Hayden McCoy, and Taner Hoover, and one great grandchild: Lyla Richardson. Deby and Tom just celebrated 50 years of love last month.
Deby graduated in 1969 from Western High School in Las Vegas, NV. She went to work in banking and eventually moved into gaming as a casino cage cashier and supervisor at the Dunes and Riviera before retiring and finding her greatest calling as a loving grandmother.
Mom had a passion for traveling and would often refer to her trips as, “Deby’s Great Adventures.” One of her most cherished trips was taking her mother Zoma to France to meet her brother Danny following his LDS mission. She also loved camping and eventually RV’ing. She rented an RV to take the family on an epic adventure to Yellowstone one Summer. She loved it so much that they purchased an RV after retirement and took many amazing trips before it became too difficult for them. Disneyland truly was one of her most happiest places on earth and she would wake us up in the middle of the night and tell us, “get dressed, we’re going to Disneyland.”
Mom also enjoyed sewing and she put an incredible amount of effort into hand stitching Christmas stockings. As we grew older and started families of our own she sacrificed hundreds of hours to make sure each of her grandchildren and great grandchild had a stocking that she had made for them. Christmas has always been Mom’s favorite time of the year and It’s really heartbreaking to lose her so close to the holiday.
Deby is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, great granddaughter, brother Dan Phelps, and many extended family members who will miss her. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Rebecca Parks.
