In Loving Memory of Ernest Adlai Poe, Sr.
Ernest Adlai Poe, Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 73. His life was a testament to faith, service, and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on June 9, 1952, in Roanoke, Virginia, Ernest was the cherished son of William Henry Poe and Julia Childress Poe. He was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. His calling to ministry led him to obtain a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, followed by a Master of Theology degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.
Ernest dedicated his life to serving others, first as an Assistant Pastor at High Street Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia, before joining the United States Navy. For 20 years, he served as a Chaplain, providing spiritual guidance and support to countless service members and their families. After retiring from the military, he continued his commitment to education and mentorship at Navy College, where he ultimately became a Regional Director.
Ernest's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Lina Eribal Poe; his children: Almika J. Poe, Ernest A. Poe, Jr., and Sean M. Poe, Sr. (Arlene); his step-children: Malenzhe Busque (Pauline), Ingelheim Eribal (Carla), and Apralyn Eribal, his grandchildren: Sean M. Poe, Jr., Analiese A. Poe, Noah I. Poe, and Anissa L. Boodie; his step-grandchildren: Dante Eribal, Marco Eribal, and Gaius Eribal; his siblings: Veronica Compton and Purity Poe, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Ernest was known for his unwavering faith, compassionate spirit, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He had a unique gift for making everyone feel valued and loved, and his kindness and wisdom will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held at 4 PM on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Davis Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV. Interment services will take place at 10:40 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 1900 Veterans Memorial, Boulder City, NV.
The family of Ernest A. Poe, Sr. wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, and the dedicated medical staff at Nevada Prime Hospice for their prayers, kindness, and loving support throughout his illness and during this time of bereavement.
