ETELVINA JESUSA WILLIAMS

9-1-1945 TO 10-22-2022

Etelvina was born to Sara and Antonio Suarez in the village of Tineo San Frautuso Ovie in SPAIN.  She and her twin brother where the youngest of sixteen children, and she was the last of her clan. After a long battle with cancer and lung disease she passed away in her sleep on the morning of October 22-2022 with her loving family by her side

Her father was in the Spanish Army and he worked with the Allies during the Second World War when Franco became dictator of Spain. The US helped him and his family escape from Spain and relocate to North Carolina.  Etelvina lived there, until getting married in 1971. She was educated in a nunnery due to the fact that she and her family were olive skinned, and spoke only Spanish, so neither the white nor black schools would accept her. This is where she learned all the finer arts of needlepoint, cooking, and sewing. Thank you Etelvina for all the great meals you made for us from pot roast to paella, and sangria, as well as her famous coconut cake.

In the late 80’s she came to Las Vegas and found employment at the YMCA which became her place of security and safety and she met a lot of new and dear friends.  The Y is where she enjoyed working in the summer programs while working with the pools and any projects she was assigned to.  When in 2004 she retired due to health issues.

Her request is that you make any donation to the Las Vegas YMCA.
