Faustino Genio

Mr. Faustino "Tinoy" Sanchez Genio, age 91 of Henderson, NV was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 22, 2023, with family by his side. Faustino was born in Ragay, Camarines Sur, Philippines in 1932. He received his Bachelors of Science in Commerce at Atenio De Naga University in the Philippines with a major in Accounting. He worked as an accountant in Manila and took a position in a private High School, teaching Mathematics and PMT (Philippines Military Training).

He longed to have a better life for his wife, Niely, and 7 children. He applied to the American Embassy to become one of the few immigrants to come to the United States and two years later, he was approved. With only $100 in his pocket in 1971, he set out to San Francisco, then on to Reno, NV where he eventually was able to bring his wife and kids over the following 3 years. He always considered this a miracle and went on to raise his children in Reno.

He worked for Harrah's Corporation in Reno, NV in 1971 as a cashier then moved up to a position as Senior Accountant. He was with Harrah's Corporation for 14 years receiving numerous employee awards. He then worked at University of Nevada Reno in Maintenance for another 15 years where he eventually retired. He moved to Henderson, NV in 2003.

Faustino was a great family man and loved taking the family to Pyramid Lake for fishing, taking short trips to San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. He was also a devout Catholic taking his family every Sunday to attend mass at St Mary of the Mountains Church in Virginia City, NV. He was proud of all his children, all becoming successful in their field.

In his younger years, Faustino was a great singer and performer in his home town in Naga City, Philippines. He was the lead singer in an Opera known as Lucia De La Mermour. He had a beautiful voice and everyone enjoyed listening to him sing on many occasions. He was also a champion Chess Player in the Philippines. He was undefeated in Chess for 4 years and won several trophies. He enjoyed watching all the Casino Entertainment shows in Reno and Lake Tahoe which included watching his favorite singer, Engelbert Humperdinck.

Faustino is survived by his wife, Niely Hidalgo Genio. They were married for 67 years.

Five sons and their spouses: Lemuel and Margarita Genio, Lino and Daisy Genio, Faustino Genio Jr., Wendell Genio, and Wilson Genio.

Two daughters and their spouses: Minelli and Steve McDougall, and Sheila and Mark Looney.

Twelve Grandchildren: Pamela Ennis, Cheryl Moreno, Trevor McDougall, Therese Wogberg, Tyler Ann Curran, Dayna Genio, Gabrielle Looney, Brandon Looney, Ethan Genio, Casey Genio, Cayden Looney, and Adam Genio.

Eight Great Grandchildren: Ava, Emily, Everly, Parker, London, Ophelia, Bishop, and Baron.

Two surviving sisters: Corazon Morandarte and Consejo Nucum.
