Florence Sam Marshall

Florence (Samantha) Marshall, 84, of Pahrump, passed away on March 31, 2018 in Pahrump Nevada. Sami, as she was known to her friends, was born in Decorah Iowa to Samuel and Alice Grant on June 3rd, 1933.
She attended elementary school in Decorah Iowa, where she found a love for gymnastics and music. The family moved to Crystal Lake Ill, where she attended Crystal Lake Central high school. While attending Crystal Lake high she joined the Marching Band and Played the Clarinet. Sami graduated from Crystal Lake Central High in May 0f 1952. One of her proudest achievements was having a perfect attendance record through 12 years of school.
She was married to Raymond Porter with whom she had seven children. She married Larry Marshall in 1998.
She worked as a waitress for many years and owned her own restaurant In Big Springs Texas called the Stars and Stripes. She was the most Patriotic person I knew. She worked for the Post Office in Libertyville Ill for several years. Sami moved from Crystal Lake Ill to Las Vegas NV in 1982, where she opened a Home cleaning service. She owned and managed the company from 1982 until 2004. Among her proudest achievements, was receiving her Women of the Moose College degree in the same class as her mother, a rare achievement back in the day. Sami was a life member with 67 years as a member, and 15 years as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by Samuel Grant (Father) and Alice Grant (Mother) and her brothers Sam and Edward, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband of twenty years, Larry Marshall, and her children: son Rick Porter Sr, his spouse Audrey; his son Rick Jr, his wife Angela, their children Daniella & Jillian; son- Jeremy & wife Jenese w/children Makayla and Jack, Son Joshua and his daughter Zoey ; daughter Beth. Son Edward Porter and spouse Connie, children - Heather and spouse Wayne, children Jacob & Amanda (and their daughter Alycia), Charlie, Amber, and Ashley; Daughter Chrissy & husband Bill, their children Jayson and Sarah and her son Landon; Daughter Jennifer and husband Tim, children - daughter Hallie, Sons Caleb and Logan. Son Danny Porter;
Son Sam and Spouse Charise with children daughter Virginia, sons Christopher and Sam Jr. Son Dave and spouse Gloria children Dave Jr. and Melissa and son Tim and his spouse Lindsay with their children Jacob and Aubree; Daughter Veronica(Ronnie) children- Nikki, Cody, and Corey Lee, and Daughter Valerie and Spouse Jeff .
A viewing for the Family will be held at 12:30 - 1pm on Friday April 20th at Davis Memorial Garden, 6200 Eastern Ave Las Vegas and viewing for the public from 1pm to 3pm. Grave side at 3pm following the viewing.
The Marshall and Porter family wish to extend our thanks to Doctor Stephen Andrachi and his staff in Pahrump for the wonderful care they provided Sami the two years when she needed them, and the staff at Infinity Hospice care who helped me care for her in her last months. To Chaplin George you made her passing so much easier, as a result of your talks and comfort.
