John Strzemp

John Strzemp age 73 of Las Vegas passed away on April 15, 2025. John was born in Chicago on November 3, 1951 to John and Dolores Strzemp, soon becoming the oldest of the pair’s three children. He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and became a CPA. He was married to Genevieve in 1976, and they subsequently moved together to Las Vegas in 1981, where they had two children, John III and Jacqueline. He won money for the couple’s first house in a football betting contest shortly before John III was born.

John worked in many iconic Las Vegas hotels and casinos, including the Golden Nugget, Treasure Island, Hilton, and Bellagio. He retired in 2017 from his position as the Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Wynn Resorts, after 28 years of working in the Wynn family. John may be best known for finishing second place in the World Series of Poker in 1997 against Stu Ungar, which earned him a spot on a Trivial Pursuit question card. In addition to his love of poker, John enjoyed horse and sports betting---and long conversations with his son about odds---and watching the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting his daughter in Spain, Peru, and Washington, D.C., where visits were often scheduled around baseball games between the Cubs and the Nationals.

John is preceded in death by his father John, in 1991, his brother Robert, in 2016, and his mother Dolores in 2023. He is survived by his son John and partner Winnie, parents of granddaughter Kylie; daughter Jacqueline and her husband Joey; his brother Joe; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; in addition to Bonnie Ratner, his partner of 24 years.

A visitation will be held on April 29, 2025 from 4 to 7pm at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Avenue. A Catholic mass will follow on April 30 at 1:15pm at Guardian Angel Cathedral, 302 Cathedral Way, Las Vegas. Interment will follow at Davis Memorial Park.
