Josil M. Tayson was born on January 29, 1953, in Bacolod City to the late Silvestre Mongcal Tayson and Estelita Tabujara Maleza Tayson, a judge and teacher, respectively. He was raised by his grandmother, Illuminada Tabujara Maleza, in the regions of Isio, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Surrounded by the quiet beauty of nature, Josil developed a deep love and hidden talent for music. He immersed himself in piano and, through the years, learned to play several musical instruments. He generously shared his gift with the Roman Catholic and Christian communities through prayer groups and Sunday Mass, while also passing his love of music on to his children.
Josil later graduated from La Salle University with a degree in business, and he truly embodied the spirit of an entrepreneur. Wherever he saw opportunity, he focused on one objective: making it happen. Over the years, he owned a video store, worked as a DJ for parties and events, and eventually founded a staffing agency. When he first presented the idea for the agency to an employed nurse, he was met with laughter and doubt. Rather than discouraging him, it motivated him to work harder. Determined to succeed, Josil went directly to upper management and ultimately secured approval from the CEO himself. Ironically, the very same nurse who laughed at his idea was later instructed by the CEO to assist him. From that determination and perseverance, Ultima Nursing Agency was born.
Josil and his family lived in New Jersey for many years before ultimately settling in Las Vegas in 2006, where he remained until his passing.
He was blessed with a loving family and married his “Miss Universe,” Cozette Lopez Tayson, on January 30, 1981. Together, they built a better life for their family through hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance despite many hardships. For a period of time, Josil became a stay-at-home father, helping raise their five children while Cozette worked. Side by side throughout life’s journey, they supported one another in everything they did. Cozette handled decorations while Josil DJed at parties. Josil played religious music while “Bing” led prayers in prayer groups.
He devoted himself fully to his children — arranging basketball games and practices for his eldest son, BJ, often bringing all the children along while carrying baby Jerec in a car seat. He also drove Jozet, Jan-Jan, and Jerec to music and vocal lessons and taught his children how to play chess.
Josil was a man of few words, yet his presence spoke volumes. His two grandchildren, Jayden and Gabriel, ages 7 and 5, adored their grandfather. Like his own children, they too were introduced to the piano through him. Josil was also a jokester who could make people laugh with his classic dad jokes — or at least earn an affectionate eye roll.
The Book of James (James 1:19) reminds us: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.” Josil embodied these words throughout his life. He was a generous and supportive father who always listened, even when it seemed he wasn’t, spoke thoughtfully, and was rarely seen angry.
Josil passed away in the afternoon of May 3, 2026, at Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center, surrounded by his wife and all of his children, after bravely battling stage 4 prostate cancer. In fulfillment of his final wish, he asked to be buried near the airport, so that he could continue traveling with his loved ones in spirit.
Josil is Survived by his wife Cozette; his sons BJ, Jason, and Jerec; his daughters Jan-Jan and Jozet; his grandchildren Jayden and Gabriel Tayson. As well as his four brothers: Jori, Josan, Jofel, and Joem Tayson.
