October 6, 1933 - December 14, 2023
Lloyd E. Curry, also affectionately known by others as “Mr. C”, was born on October 6, 1933, in Glasgow, Virginia. He was one of six children born to the late Jerry Lewis Curry and Mildred Margaret Frye. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 90 years old.
During his lifetime, Lloyd was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and community role model. In his earlier years, while living in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, he was employed at McKeesport Hospital as a Housekeeping Supervisor. However, his real passion was physical fitness. He took great pride in his body building. He competed in local and state competitions. He has an array of award-winning trophies and ribbons for his individual accomplishments in this arena. Later on, Lloyd was the proud owner of Curry’s Gym in the Harrison Village Housing Authority. He became a community role model for all of the children within the complex, as well as some adults. He taught them about exercise, self-esteem and discipline, but mostly about God – who has always been the head of his life.
Throughout his life travels, he met and married Carmela. In this blended family, there were Cynthia, Lloyd Edward, Jr., Juanita, Francine, Michelle and John. Lloyd Edward, Jr. and Francine lived with the couple in McKeesport.
In 1998, Lloyd and Carmela relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, their new home. Lloyd dedicated many years working as a Security Guard at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas until he retired. He was also a devoted member of The Knights of Columbus for over 30 years.
In the latter years of Lloyd’s life, he had the rare opportunity to create a significant bond with his two daughters, Cynthia and Michelle; which allowed him to thrive and strive as he continued to age. Between their interstate visits with him and Carmela, the four of them became a tight-knit group, rediscovering one another and deepening their connections and reaffirming their love for each other.
Lloyd touched the lives of many and his memory will live on through those who knew and loved him. He will always be known for his friendly demeanor and unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of others. He made a lasting impression on both colleagues and patrons alike.
Lloyd had one son, Lloyd Edward, Jr.; one sister, Maryetta Tarver; two brothers, Jerry E. Curry, Jr., Lee Ernest Scott; one sister-in-law, Sandra Zera and brother-in-law, Kenneth Zera, that preceded him in death to be with the Lord. He leaves behind his loving wife Carmela Curry. She has been by his side through thick and thin and he will be forever remembered by her. Lloyd’s legacy will be carried on by his daughters Cynthia Curry, Juanita Curry, his step-daughters Francine Poore (Jerry, Sr.), and Michelle Gallo, as well as his step-son John Gallo (Ariane). His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren Clarissa, Jerry Jr., Jaysen (Felina), and his step-grandchildren Kevin and Camryn. Lloyd’s great-grandchildren, Cayla, Symone, Jaysen Jr., and Justice, will forever hold him in their hearts. Lloyd leaves behind his cherished one sister, Mildred Curry Holmes; one brother, Thomas Scott; one sister-in-law, Rose Anne Needham (Dennis); and two brothers-in-law, Carl Montalbano; and John Montalbano (June). Lloyd will have a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members to treasure the fond memories of him and his life.
Lloyd will be laid to rest through cremation, January 9, 2024 and burial, January 11, 2024.
A memorial in Lloyd’s honor will be scheduled in New York at a later date and a designated location.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to those who took care of Lloyd when he was no longer able to do so.
Lloyd will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his wife, family and friends will be remembered forever.
