Margaret Beatrice McBride (Mottsie)
Las Vegas, NV
Margaret Beatrice McBride of Las Vegas, died at home unexpectedly on July 27, 2022 at the age of 66. “Mottsie”, as she was known to family, was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Margaret (Ahern) and Edward McBride and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. The only girl in a family with four doting brothers whom she adored.
Margie was a fierce advocate for union organizing and workers’ rights. She was a dedicated member and employee of UNITE-HERE Local 54 in Atlantic City, and more recently HERE Local 165 in Las Vegas. Margie loved her work on behalf of the membership, respected the power of collective action and never shied from a rally with her union brothers and sisters.
Margie had many cherished friends whom she had known for decades, but also loved meeting new people. Late in life, she boldly moved to Nevada and quickly formed a new community of dear friends. With them she found joy and fun every day, even as her health and mobility declined in recent years.
Whenever possible, Margie headed to the “Jersey shore” with her loved ones to enjoy a good meal or spend a relaxing day boating. Margie was deeply empathetic and eager to help those less fortunate. Consequently, she supported a number of cancer charities and “Variety – The Children’s Charity.”
Margie is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Michael and Edward. She is survived by her beloved son, Alex Cabrera, brothers Gary McBride, David (Sherry) McBride; and Danny (Kathy Tanney) McBride. She was loved and cherished by her nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Her life was well lived with dignity, quiet courage, and a lot of humor. “Mottsie” was a wonderful caring daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
