Marissa Dela Peña, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully at the age of 66 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Marissa was one of ten siblings in a large, loving family. From an early age, she embraced responsibility, strength, and compassion—qualities that would define her life. At 19, she began working abroad in Saudi Arabia as a babysitter, where she later met her husband, the late Eduardo Balauag. Together, they had three children.
After her husband’s passing in 1993, Marissa took on the role of both mother and father, raising her children with fierce love and determination. In 1995, she immigrated to the United States and made a home in Las Vegas, where she continued to provide for her family with tireless dedication.
Marissa had a strong personality and was known for her unshakable routines and high standards, especially when it came to keeping a spotless home. She found joy in creating order and comfort for those she loved. She was also a gifted and passionate cook—able to master any cuisine and turn it into something entirely her own. She cooked every day for her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends, feeding not just their bodies, but their hearts.
Music brought Marissa daily joy and peace. From sunrise to sunset, her home was filled with the sounds of songs she loved—especially Filipino ballads and classic melodies that connected her to her roots and brought her comfort and happiness.
Marissa also loved gathering around the table for cards. She cherished those moments of laughter and friendly competition with her siblings, and in-laws—finding in them dear companions and warm fellowship.
A woman of deep faith, Marissa was a devoted Christian. She attended church regularly and prayed every day. Even throughout her battle with cancer, her faith in God never wavered. She endured her pain with quiet grace and unshakable trust in the Lord, drawing strength and peace from her relationship with Him.
Marissa was a proud and loving grandmother. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she was the kind of grandmother every child dreams of—nurturing, generous, and deeply devoted. She also played a special role in the lives of her nieces and nephews, many of whom saw her as a second mom.
Marissa is survived by her three children, her beloved grandchildren, her siblings, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved her dearly. Her legacy of strength, faith, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the lives she touched.
She will be remembered always for her beautiful cooking, her endless love, her deep prayers, and the music that filled her days and our hearts.
