Patrick J. Murphy 89 passed away on April 20, 2018. Throughout his life he always had a great sense of humor and showed his devotion to his family. He lived in Las Vegas for 39 years.
He was born to James W. and Mabel C. Murphy on September 30, 1928 in Hinsdale Montana. He grew up and attended school in Sidney, Montana and graduated from Sidney High School in 1946. He spent two years in Sydney working in broadcast radio as an engineer and announcer. He left Sidney in 1947 and went to Grand Folks, ND to work in a radio station to pay his way to attend the University of North Dakota. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from UND in June of 1951 and on the same day he was commissioned in the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lt. His first duty assignment was at Rapid City Air Force Base South Dakota. While in college, he met a fellow student, Mollie Knudsen. On June 14th, 1952 Pat and Mollie were married in St. Leo's church in Mollie's hometown of Minot, ND. He remained in the Air Force for 28 years and retired as a Lt. Colonel in June 1979. During the Air Force years he was stationed in ten different states with this last assignment at Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska. He then took a job as a manager with Computer Sciences Corporation in Las Vegas working with the Department of Energy Weapons Testing Program. In 1989 he retired from Computer Sciences Corporation.
He is survived by his wife Mollie Lou Murphy, children; Dr. Peggy Murphy (Dr Ed Leone) of Honolulu, HI, Patrick J. Murphy III (Penny Murphy) of Henderson, Colleen White, Esq. of Jacksonville Beach, FL. George Murphy of Las Vegas, Six grandchildren; Cooper Hazzard, Peyton Hazzard, Andrew Murphy, Charles White IV, Jacqueline White, Megan Murphy. Brother Joseph Murphy (Jan) of Boise, ID.
Patrick was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Sidney, MT and of the Elks Lodge in Las Vegas. He was an amateur radio operator for over sixty years and a member of the Las Vegas Amateur Radio Club. Visitation will be at the Davis Funeral Home on May 15th between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm 6200 South Eastern Avenue. Services will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City on May 16th 10:00 am.
