Peggy Kennedy

July 1, 1952 — March 20, 2023

Peggy Ann Cherry Kennedy, 70, of both Battle Lake, Minnesota & Las Vegas, Nevada passed away peacefully on March 20th, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Peggy was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 1st, 1952, to Richard and Marilyn Cherry. She remained in St. Paul throughout her childhood and graduated from St. Paul Johnson in 1970. After graduation she attended the University of Minnesota on a full-ride athletic scholarship for softball. She graduated in 1974 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and started applying for teacher openings, which took her north to Cass Lake, Minnesota. It was in this school that she met her late husband Bob, and they married in August of 1978. They moved to Battle Lake, Minnesota where they both got teaching positions and Peggy was asked to coach several sports. After being told she would not be able to have children; Tessa Ann was born on October 28th, 1979, in Fergus Falls. In 1985 Peggy and Tessa moved back to the twin cities where she was looking to get closer to family and Rockford, Minnesota was where they planted roots for the next 10 years. Peggy taught, coached, and was highly engaged with the community during that time. In 1994 she took a leap of faith and applied for a teaching position in Seoul, South Korea for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) and was quickly hired. They spent the next four years traveling all over Asia while Tessa finished high school. In 2000 she moved to Okinawa, Japan for a new position, next was Frankfurt, Germany, and she came full circle and spent her final six years teaching back in Seoul; retiring in 2014 after a combined 40 years spent in education. She enjoyed her summers in Battle Lake and her winters in Las Vegas; with amazing friends made in both places. When not at home she was with her family, walking her dog, shopping, traveling, or on the pickleball court.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Marilyn, her husband Bob, numerous aunts and uncles, close friend Gene Kubu, and her beloved dogs Chubbles and Sasha.
