Raymond J. Werbrich passed away peacefully on July 10, 2015 at the age of 92. He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Dottie. He is survived by his only brother, Jerome of Miamisburg, OH and his two daughters, Jacqueline Moses and Jolane Brunty, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Ray served in the Navy during WWII on submarine duty and years later here in Las Vegas as State Commander of the Submarine Veterans of WWII; something he enjoyed tremendously for a number of years.
In 1952 , Ray and his family moved to Las Vegas to work in the casino industry; first working at the Desert Inn Hotel and then the El Rancho Vegas until it burned down. Over the years Ray worked at various casinos that no longer exist such as the Stardust and the Sands Hotels. He truly loved casino work and was lucky to work in some executive positions. His last job was at the Station Casino on Sahara Avenue AFTER he had decided to retire.
Through the years he had the joy of working in casinos in the Bahamas on Paradise Island, and also in Aruba. His greatest pleasure was swimming and living in the islands afforded him the luxury to indulge in his free time.
Raymond was a man of great integrity, one who loved fine wine and great food and best of all sharing this with his innumerable friends. Music was his other great joy. You could say Ray was one of the few men of his era in the casino business ""still standing"".
Ray was a proud parishioner of St. Viator's Catholic Church since its inception and the funeral mass will be held in the church on Wednesday, July 22 at 10am followed by a Naval Memorial Ceremony at the Veteran's Cemetery in Boulder City at 12 noon.
