Richard Craveiro

Col. Richard C. ""Rich"" Craveiro, USAF retired, 81, of Las Vegas, peacefully passed away on October 4, 2018 in Nathan Adelson Hospice, with his loving and devoted family nearby.
Rich was born in Selma, California to Clarence Craveiro and Rena Craveiro (LaFontaine) on February 15, 1937.
He graduated from Selma Union High School, Selma, California in 1954 and received a degree in agriculture from the University of California, Fresno in 1959. Gaining his commission through Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) in February 1959, he earned his Navigator's Wings at Harlingen AFB, Texas in May 1960. After completion of Undergraduate Navigator Training, he attended advanced bombardier training at Mather AFB, California, completing this course in June 1961.
From June 1961 to January 1967, the Colonel served with the 6th Strategic Aerospace Wing (SAC) flying in B-52E aircraft. In January 1967, he was transferred to Kincheloe AFB, Michigan and served as a B-52H Instructor Radar Navigator and Chief of the B-52 Scheduling Section.
Colonel Craveiro was transferred to SAC Headquarters in August 1968 and completed his tour in August 1971 as Chief of the Documents Section as part of the Command Post Division.
In August 1971, the Colonel transferred to Castle AFB, California as an instructor in the 93rd Bomb Wing in B-52D, F, G, H Aircraft, and Academic Instructor for the Combat Crew Training Squadron. He assumed the position of Chief of the Bomb-Nav until August 1978.
He was assigned to Malmstrom AFB, Montana in September 1978 and served as the 341st Transportation Squadron Commander and the Assistant Deputy Commander for Resources until September 1980.
It was then time to have an overseas tour where Rich brought his family, dog Rusty, and 16 suitcases through customs. It was quite a site. The Colonel served as the Deputy Commander for Resources at TUSLOG Det 10, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey from October 1980 until June 1981. He then became the Commander of The United States Logistics Group, Detachment 193, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey until 26 Jun 1981.
The Colonel was transferred to Torrejon AFB Spain where he first served as the Deputy Chief of Logistics for 16th Air Force, and then was selected by the USAFE commander in-chief as the new Commander of the 7275th Air Base Group at San Vito Normanni Air Station, Italy.
September 4, 1987, he assumed his last command as the Inspector General of the United States Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. He retired from the USAF in April 1989. He and Carole eventually found their way to Las Vegas, NV. Some of his hobbies included taking the family on numerous camping trips, boating and water skiing, golf, and traveling the world.
Colonel Craveiro was a Command Navigator with more than 4,600 hours in a variety of aircraft. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Metal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, the Combat Readiness Medal, and the National Defense Medal.
Rich is preceded in death by his parents Clarence Craveiro and Rena Craveiro (LaFontaine), and son Todd Craveiro.
Rich is survived by wife Carole Jean Craveiro (Pickett), Children: Brian Craveiro (Pamala), Renee Craveiro Watson (Todd), Grandchildren: Brianna Craveiro, Ryder Craveiro, Sophea Craveiro, Bailey Watson, Quinn Watson.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, October 23rd at Davis Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Eastern in Henderson, NV with Full military honors. Burial will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home.
The family of Richard C. Craveiro wish to thank the numerous physicians, nurses, and staff at the various clinics and hospitals who cared for Rich, including Summerlin Hospital, Nathan Adelson Hospice NW (Hospice nurses and staff are angels on earth), Dr. Richard Teh, Dr. Leonard Gan-Lim, the staff at Medical Group Sun City, Dr. Samer Nakhle, Dr. Vogelzang, Advanced Health Care of Tenaya staff, his physical therapists, and home health nurses.
