Robert Van Bennett, (RV) 85, beloved Son, Brother and Father was called to his eternal resting place on April 22, 2026.
He entered this world on April 28, 1940 in Silver Creek, MS.
Robert attended Lawrence County schools before moving to New Orleans. He ultimately settled in Los Angeles. He married is first wife Atlena Johnson from that union they had three children. He enjoyed working as apart of the Water Utility Team of Department of Water and Power. He later married Carolyn Spence and had one son from that union.
Robert was a sports connoisseur. He was the ultimate Los Angeles fan: Lakers, Rams, Raiders and the Santa Anita Horses. He was an enthusiastic competitive bowler, playing in leagues in both California and Nevada for over five decades. A self-proclaimed "Master Gardener" he maintained immaculate yards and vegetable gardens for himself, family and friends. He remained an active member of the Lawrence County Gathering committee because he loved a seeing his classmates from home. Robert never met a stranger. He was always available to lend a helping hand.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Frank Bennett and Lillie Halloway, siblings: Margenell Bennett, Bobby Bennett, Billie Jean Baggett, Charlene Sharble. Marylee Bowens, Glory Jean Halloway, and Tina Halloway. He is survived by children Vanessa (Clyde) Rhodes; Valarie Bennett Matlock; Robert Bennett, Jr; and Roderick Bennett; siblings: Roy(Rita) Harris, Winnie Chaney, Linda Holloway, Carolyn Hubbard, David Holloway; Elijah Holloway and Freddie Holloway. Grandchildren: Howard Matlock,II, Ashley Bennett, Lauren Matlock, Amanda Matlock, Clyde Rhodes, III, Robert Bennett, III, Joseph Rhodes, Symone Bennett, Kaela Bennett, AO3 Traevon Bennett, and Mia Bennett. great-Grandchildren: Jayla Rios, Averie Matlock, Malik,Jr., Jelani Matlock and Gray Jackson, V; Special friend Annie Hazel McCants Host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
