Ronald (Ronnie) Houston, a devoted servant of faith, a proud veteran, and a cherished member of his community, passed away on March 26, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on August 11, 1952, in Los Angeles, California to Bobbie Jean Chambers (mother) and Emmett Houston (father). Ronnie lived a life marked by dedication—to his country, his loved ones, and his spiritual calling.
Ronnie served honorably in the United States Army, embodying the values of discipline and service that would guide him throughout his life. After completing his military service, Ronnie went on to build a career with Los Angeles County before retiring. His professional journey reflected a steadfast commitment to public service and community betterment.
Raised in the Baptist faith, Ronnie’s spiritual foundation was laid early in life and remained central to his identity. He became an ordained minister at the family’s home church—St. John Baptist Church of Long Beach, California—where he shared the word of God with conviction and joy. The words of Psalm 100 resonated deeply with Ronald: “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD… Serve the LORD with gladness…” These verses were not only scripture but also a reflection of how he lived—joyfully serving others and praising God through both word and deed.
Ronnie found great joy in simple pleasures. He had a passion for building and collecting model cars—a hobby that combined creativity with precision. His love for gardening brought beauty into his surroundings and peace into his heart. Animals held a special place in Ronnie’s life; he lovingly raised dogs and parakeets who were constant companions over the years.
Family was at the heart of everything Ronnie did. Through Ronnie's first marriage to his childhood sweetheart Rosalyn (Parker) Houston, they had two children: Tamie Houston (daughter) and Jason Houston (son); Ronnie later remarried Veronica (Lewis) Houston, whom he leaves in mourning along with Africa (King) Griffin (stepdaughter) and Darrell King (stepson). The mourning of Ronnie expands to his brothers Ernest Houston (Betty) and Larry Houston (Alexandria); sisters Kim Houston, Deborah Davis, Sharon Houston, Terri Houston, Tonya Green (Ervin), and Traci Rasberry; grandchildren: Ernell Boykins, Britney Boykins, Amber Brames (Alex), Aamira Houston, Charis Houston, Trinity Houston, Rakhel Houston, Kabar Houston, Naasir Houston, Aalijah Houston, Aaliyah Houston, five great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whose lives were touched by Ronnie’s presence.
Ronnie now joins those who preceded him in rest: John Chambers (step-grandfather), Elzetta Chambers (grandmother), Bobbie Jean Rasberry (mother), Emmett Houston (father), Charles Rasberry (stepfather), and Eugene Allen (grandfather). His memory lives on through those who knew him best and loved him most.
