Rosa Maria Alvarez

July 6, 1954 — April 26, 2025

Las Vegas, Nevada

Rosa Maria Alvarez, 70, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico to Maria Luisa Martínez Rodríguez and Julio Martinez Beltrán, Rosa was the eldest of nine siblings. Five of her infant siblings preceded her in death. From a young age, Rosa embraced responsibility and resilience, helping her family with ranch chores—fetching water from the tinajo, washing clothes by the river, tending farm animals, and caring for her younger sisters: Manuela, Santa, Julia, and Mandy.

Rosa spent part of her youth under the loving care of her aunt and uncle, Tomasa and Jesús Mesa, who helped shape her strong work ethic and values. Determined to improve her life, she attended night school and worked as a caretaker in San Diego, California. At age 21, she welcomed her first son, Josue David Garcia, in Los Angeles.

In 1976, Rosa met the love of her life, David Max Alvarez, in San Fernando, California. They married on May 1, 1977, and built a life together in Pacoima, raising four children: Josue, Jason, Lisette, and David Jr.

Rosa had a long career in sales and finance, including service with the Los Angeles School District at San Fernando High School. In 1994, the Alvarez family relocated to Las Vegas after the Northridge earthquake.

Rosa was self-driven, ambitious, and deeply devoted to her family and community. She found joy in sharing stories, singing, shopping at thrift stores, feeding her birds, taking family photos, and giving generously to others. Despite health challenges, she remained active, often traveling by bus to visit relatives in Mexico—always bringing gifts packed in countless bags to share her love.

Her faith anchored her life. Rosa was a faithful member of Iglesia Apostólica Torre Fuerte in Las Vegas, where she found strength and community.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Max Alvarez; her son, Jason Alvarez; granddaughter, Isabella Rose Alvarez; her parents, Luisa and Julio; and siblings Jose Luis and Yeyita.

She is survived by her children: Josue Garcia, Lisette Alvarez, and David Alvarez Jr.; her cherished grandchildren: Alex, Julian (Cheromine), Adrian, Isaac, Julissa, Lizette Arielis, Emiliano, Marina, Jesse, Emmalina, David Jr., Angelina, Vera, Patrick, Yesenia, and Yamila; and great-grandchildren: Daisy & Elijah Gonzalez, Zane & Penelope Rapeta, Viora & Valen Gonzalez, Jely, and Azul Alvarez.

Also surviving are her loving siblings: Manuela (Chilo Garcia), Santa (German Sandoval), Julia (Alejandro Gordillo), Mandy (Rafael Mejia), and Gerardo Martinez (Alma), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
