Sofronio Galapon

Sofronio E. Galapon Jr passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the age of 73 at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sofronio was born on January 28, 1950, to Sofronio and Lydia Galapon. On August 16, 1975, he married the love of his life, Cristina. They had three children together and were devoted to each other 'til his last day.

Sofronio proudly started his United States Military career in 1972. His service allowed him and his family to travel across the United States (from Alaska to California to Massachusetts to Florida). He also had the opportunity to travel across Europe (from England to Germany to Italy). He retired from the military in 1992. Sofronio continued his Federal service by working for the United States Postal Service in 1993 'til he retired for a 2nd time in 2018.

Sofronio was a self-taught guitar player who also enjoyed singing and performing for family and friends. While living in Florida, his leisure interest was chess where he would compete in local tournaments, even achieving a trophy in 1988.

Sofronio is predeceased by his father Sofronio P. Galapon Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Lydia Elarmo Galapon; his loving wife, Cristina Galapon; his children, Anna Maokhamphiou, John Galapon, and Justin Galapon; his brother Joseph Galapon; his sisters, Mary Ann Galapon and Jeannette Chico; and his nieces and nephews, Janis, Jay, John, James, Jeannine, Joanna, and Judd. The delight and joy of his life were his grandchildren: Phetsamone "Nit" Maokhamphiou, Khamcheng "Ty" Maokhamphiou, Bienvenido "Seth" Maokhamphiou, Paris Jade Cosgrove, Chloe Galapon, Zoe Galapon, Adaline Galapon, Justin "JJ" Galapon, and Mya Galapon.

Viewing and services will be held at 9:00a on March 3, 2023, at Davis Funeral Home at 1401 S. Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV, 89146.

Burial will be at 1:20p at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr, Boulder City, NV, 89005.

Reception will be at 3:00p at D'Pinoy Joint at 6820 W. Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas NV, 89103.

In lieu of flowers and contributions, the family asks only for prayers for the deceased.
