Wayne Carter Haugen was born on September 13, 1954 to the union of Herbert Thomas Haugen and LaRae Cynthia Campbell in Mandan, North Dakota. The family moved to Canada when he was a young child.
During his high school days in Jasper, Canada, he won a number of medals in swimming competitions. He worked as a lifeguard, worked in a lampshade factory and train conductor in Canadian National Railway where he retired. He went back stateside and joined the sheet metal apprenticeship where his grandfather is a business agent. As journeyman, he traveled working from one state to another until he ended up here in Vegas. He managed the crew that did the Venetian, mechanical side.
He was running one of the restaurants in Desert Passage of Aladin, now Planet Hollywood where I first met him. That was July of 2000. He was a foreman when the following projects were built: Detention Center in Down Town, World Trade Center, Palazzo, Community College Science Laboratory, Mandarin Condos, Veer Towers and Crystals in City Center, among others.
We got married 0n 2012. And he retired on 2020. But after that he still worked as a Dust Monitor and Compliance Specialist with EROS Environmental until early 2022.
Carter passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023. He is survived by his wife Judith, daughters Rachelle and Sandra, sons-in-law Eric and Daryl, grandchildren Nathan, Darius and Damian, sister Jayne, and aunt Julie. He will remain in our hearts and memories.
