Dicksy Lufting

August 15, 1929 — December 29, 2021

Dicksy Lufting passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021, at the age of 92. Preceded in death by his young daughter Hedy in 1957 and beloved wife Eugenie (Jeanie) in October, 2021, Dicksy is survived by his children Michael, Robert, Carla, and Eddie, Granddaughters Nichole and Alexandria, and Great Granddaughter Kailani.

Dicksy was born in Madura, Indonesia, in 1929. He left Indonesia with his wife and two sons Michael and Robert, relocating to Nieuwveen, Holland, where daughter Carla was born. In 1962 the family immigrated to the United States residing in Inglewood, California, where son Eddie was born.

A hard worker, Dicksy was a valued employee of the British American Tobacco Company in Indonesia where he became part of the management team. An émigré in Holland, he quickly found work at the shipyards in Amsterdam. Once in America he gained a position at Zero Manufacturing in Burbank, California, where he remained for almost 30 years. His trade was welder and sheet metal mechanic. Throughout his employment years what set him apart was his willingness, even eagerness, to accept overtime and additional side jobs. He often said, "Everything I did was for the family." His hard work paid off in 1969 when he and Jeanie purchased a beautiful home in Santa Clarita, California, where they lived and entertained for 21 years. At 62 Dicksy retired, and he and Jeanie moved to their new home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dicksy often expressed his gratefulness that he found his way to America and not Brazil or Australia, his other options. His proudest moment occurred in 2003 when he became a United States citizen. He happily displayed the United States flag at his home and frequently wore American shirts, hats, or pins.

A lover of nature, Dicksy had a vast knowledge of plant husbandry, herbal remedies, and sport fishing/hunting ethics. Dicksy had a green thumb and could grow anything, but roses were his true love. His garden was also filled with lush greenery, productive fruit trees, and many herbs and spices needed for cooking. His most passionate hobby involved a rod and reel, but he never carried a net. Each year he anxiously awaited the peak salmon runs in selected rivers and streams as well as opening day for trout in the Sierras, a favorite fishing location. Weekends involved short trips to local lakes or streams with family and friends or red-eye express trips with his sons to northern California to fish for salmon. Summers always included family camping trips often joined by other families.

After loving the same woman for over 70 years and caring for her the last five, Dicksy will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Jeanie.
