Doris Toltzman

October 12, 1938 — January 31, 2023

On Monday, January 31, Doris Viola Toltzman, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home. She was eighty-four. Doris was born on October 12, 1938, to Wilmer and Viola Hopfensperger in Dancy, WI before moving to Spencer, WI. She was a resident of the Las Vegas area since 1957.

Doris loved to travel and had seen much of the world with her husband of 65 years, Ronald Toltzman. She was a joyful personality with a competitive spirt and loved playing cards and board games. She was creative, with many talents, and incredibly resourceful. Always quick to laugh and quick with a joke, Doris was a joy to spend time with. She absolutely adored her grandkids, tirelessly entertaining them with favorite card games, craft projects, cookie decorating and her classic rhymed scavenger hunts. Most of all, Doris loved hosting Christmas. Her welcoming home was the heart of the action for extended family who traveled back each December. For so many of us, family and friends alike, her home was Christmas.

Doris is survived by her husband, Ronald Toltzman; sons Randall (wife Deborah) , Robert (wife Lisa), Richard (wife Leslie); grandsons Tyler Toltzman, Ryan Toltzman, Kai Toltzman; granddaughters, Rylee Toltzman, Lia Toltzman; step grandsons Justin Brown, Ryan Poulsen and Zachery Poulsen. She is also survived by siblings Muriel Oelrich, Janice Krasselt, Carol Luepke, Sharon Kurzinski, Diane Mossberger, Lynette Hildebrandt, Jim Hopfensperger and Dawn Obermann. She was preceded in death by siblings Marvin Hopfensperger, Evelyn Derrickson, Floyd Hopfensperger, Charles Hopfensperger and step grandson Jacob Poulsen.

Doris spent most of her working life as the officer manager for Young Electric Sign Company, retiring in 1998. She was a proud member of Executive Women’s International for many years. In retirement, she gave her time as a volunteer at Valley Hospital, Martin’s Mart, Three Squares, Camp Lutherwood in addition to traveling abroad with Habitat for Humanity. For 65 years, Doris was an active member of First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church including many years serving in its Altar Guild.

Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle with cancer and ultimately gave her peace. Doris is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate her life now that she is at peace in her heavenly home.

A celebration of Doris’ life will be held on Saturday, February 18, at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 301 S. Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas. Visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.

In lieu flowers, the family requests donations to “FunRaiser” which helps repair and update the church and school facilities at First Good Shepherd. < https://www.fgsls.org/2022-funraiser/ >
