Fidel Yuson Espino, aged 92, formerly of Alameda, California, passed away on April 27, 2023, in Las Vegas. Fidel was born on April 25th, 1931 in Bugallon, Pangasinan, Philippines, as the fifth child of eight children to his parents Jeremias Sr. and Amelia Espino.
He pursued his studies at the University of Santo Tomas while working on campus. Fidel then enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1955, where he worked on aircraft carriers USS Kitty Hawk, USS Ranger, and USS Enterprise for 6 months at a time. He married Clarita Balanza and had 2 children, Jerry Balanza Espino III and Bonnie Amelita Espino. He moved his family from California to Washington D.C. where he had the opportunity to work for Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter at the White House. He retired from the Navy after serving 22 years. Upon returning to California, he served twenty years at the U.S. Post Office in Livermore before retiring. He married Yolanda Flores then moved to Las Vegas where they both enjoyed retirement with a close knit group of friends from the church and the White House.
Fidel is preceded in death by son Jerry Espino III, mother Amelia Espino, father Jeremias Espino Sr., and siblings Norberto, Amelia, Herminia, Magdalena, and Gil.
Fidel is survived by his wife Yolanda Espino, daughter Bonnie Espino, brother Jeremias Espino Jr, sister Josefina Guiang, Grandson Levi Kim, Granddaughter Kalila Kim, son-in-law Dale Kim, daughter-in-law Donna Siu-Espino, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Fidel will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his culinary skills, friendly demeanor, relaxed personality and his big smile.
A viewing will take place on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The Mass will follow at 11:30AM to 12:30 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89118.
