February 4, 1944 — October 5, 2021

It is with love and deep sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Aloysius Monahan Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada. Joseph was born in Jersey City, New Jersey to Joseph Aloysius Monahan and Margaret (O'Neill) Monahan on February 4, 1944.

He graduated from Marist High School in Bayonne, New Jersey, attended St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ and later joined The Prudential Insurance Company. Joseph served his country as a medic in the National Guard and answered the call to duty during the Vietnam War. Joseph spoke proudly of his service caring for wounded Vietnamese and American soldiers during the war. Upon his return from Vietnam, Joseph resumed a successful career at The Prudential Insurance Company until his eventual retirement in 1995. Seeking a new adventure, Joseph left New Jersey and settled in Las Vegas, Nevada where he enjoyed hiking, friends, reading, his cats and the busy life he found there. Joseph frequently traveled to New Jersey and Texas to visit his sisters, their families, and many life-long friends. Joseph was passionate about baseball, more specifically his New York Yankees. During his working years, Joseph and friends enjoyed attending weekend games at Yankee Stadium and often had one of his fortunate nieces or nephews in tow. After his move west, Joseph could be found at his local sports bar cheering on his beloved Yankees. Joseph was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Margaret and sister Patricia.

He is survived by his loving sister Kathleen Sexton, eight nieces and nephews – Kathleen Hartnett, Maripat Sexton, Daniel Collins, Maureen Dougherty, John Sexton, Kevin Collins, Tim Sexton, Paul Collins, and 21 great-nieces and nephews.
