Margaret Josephine Escajeda Lopez

Lopez, Margaret E. was reunited with two of her children in heaven on January 4th, 2020. She passed away in her sleep at the age of 87. Margaret was born on January 21st, 1932 to Magdalena (Maida) and Nicholas Escajeda Sr. She was the younger of two children born and raised in Santa Fe, NM.

Being a strong and determined woman, she went back to school and received her beautician license while raising 4 small children with her husband Gilbert Lopez Sr. She later opened up her own salon, where she made lifelong friends, and was interviewed to be featured in a book called A Tribute to the Women of Santa Fe. In the book she was referred to as “The Miracle Worker”, because the women left her salon feeling and looking their best. She later moved to the Las Vegas area after retiring at age 62 to be closer to family and friends. Margaret loved volunteering at church, playing “Margaret’s rummy”, watching Law & Order, and spending time with friends and family. She loved dancing and music and inspired 2 generations of singers and songwriters in her family. Margaret was preceded by 2 of her children, son Gilbert Jr. and daughter Joan (Joni). She is survived and will forever be cherished through memory by her best friend, Angela (Dennis) (Michael), sons Jerome and Leonard, and grandchildren Yvette, Zianna, Shannon, Jordan, Lynette, Amber, Bianca, Nico, Spencer, Sergio, Raquel, Dylan, Christian, Alyssa, Alanna and 6 great grandchildren.

Margaret’s spirit will continue to live through those who knew her anytime we hear mariachi music, eat New Mexican green chili, retell heartfelt stories of her, and think of her dimples when she smiled. In honor of Margaret follow your dreams, stay humble, and if you are having a bad day, take time to remember all the blessings in your life.
