We live to enjoy “Our Lives” doing, what makes us happy and understanding that “Freedom of Choice” is valuable when it comes to believing in One’s Self; the Journey Starts, Now!  Educate, share, dream, enjoy, and remember the “Good times that’s what makes life complete when we receive God’s grace.  Native of Pittsylvania County, Danville, VA raised on a farm and excelled in everything that Tom did to achieve more was by always taking the lead from the front attitude.

Tom was 62, beloved Father, Grandfather, Son, and Brother was called to his eternal resting place on November 26, 2022.  He entered this world on December 30, 1959 in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late Jimmy and Elma Akers-Fitz; and brother of the late sister Emma Fitz; brother Timothy Fitz; and sister Sophia Fitz of Danville, VA.  He is survived by his son Brandon (Christina) Akers; granddaughter Mya and grandson Brandon Akers Jr. of Las Vegas, sister Susie Akers of Kuwait-City, Kuwait; sister Bobbie (Ronald) Spraggins; sister Deborah Fitz; and brother Joe Fitz of Blairs, VA; sister Sharon (Mark) Curtis; sister Annette (John) Blondin of Chula Vista, CA; aunt Helen Akers of Virginia Beach, VA; aunt Luvenia Coleman of Danville, VA, aunt Mamie Fitts of Bowie, MD; aunt Gretduge Fitts of Danville, VA; aunt Francis Stamps of Blairs, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Tom was the co-founder and President/CEO of Akers Enterprises, LLC ' Las Vegas, Nevada had over thirty-five years of experience in the areas of business consulting, computer software design and programming, television and corporate video production, and program development for small, minority, women, veteran, disabled, and other disadvantaged business enterprises.  Nationally, he consulted with his clients in Alaska, Washington, Nevada, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, District of Columbia, Tennessee, Virginia and Oregon.

Tom was an honor graduate of Tunstall High school, Dry Fork VA, an Alumni of Mount Union College-Alliance and Akron University in Ohio.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting and computer science.  Tom developed the first ePathways.biz® software tool to address business development challenges faced by the City of Los Angeles. His software success was attributed to assist agencies with communications at all levels supporting Nevada's small businesses.  He was a graduate of Leadership Las Vegas and contributed to numerous charitable causes and small businesses throughout Nevada. Tom successfully mentored over 1,500 local small business owners.  He developed the nation's first "multi-jurisdictional" region economic disparity study.  He designed and conducted several economic studies that analyzed and supported the federal Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program. He administered the Nevada Dept. of Transportation's Business Development Construction Education program. Tom was a co-founder and was an active participant of the Clark County Summer Business Institute, a high school mentoring and education program. He was referred to as an Influential Nevadan and Global Expert. He was recognized in the 2015 Distinguished Men of Nevada list, received the 2015 Cultural Diversity Foundation 8th Annual Golden Hand Service Award.

Tom, you will continue to live in our hearts.  All of our loves goes out to our families during this time of rejoice.  “Our Parents had the joy of raising seven out of ten children”.  Our hearts, will always hold a place for our love ones until we meet again.  God has accepted Tom’s offering of life and secured him in his house forever, he has received everlasting life.  We give thanks that we have shared the wonder years together, your legacy will live on.
