Zepur Sarkhanian

September 17, 1952 — April 5, 2021

Zepur Sarkhanian was born September 17, 1952. Her parents, Azadouhie and Vassil Yeremian moved to Beirut from Aleppo. Zepur spent her childhood in Beirut until she met her husband, Bedros Sarkhanian, her senior year of high school. He came to Beirut from Michigan on a tourist visit and ran into his close friend, Kevork Yeremian, Zepur's brother. The matchmaker, Anoushavajar Sarkis, introduced them. They got engaged and married within 10 days on September 6, 1969. She came to America in 1970. She continued her studies by studying accounting via correspondence school. They had their first child, Arpy, in 1971 and then, their son, Vicken, in 1973. They had settled in Michigan until 1995. Zepur helped manage her husband's business for almost 20 years until they moved to Las Vegas in 1995. They opened the same business again and she continued managing it until her husband passed away in 2015. Zepur also studied tax preparation and worked for H&R Block for a while. She, later, worked for the Flamingo in the retail department for about 12 years. She was selected "employee of the month" about 4 or 5 times and was eventually nominated for the Chairman's Award for Excellence for Caesar's Corporation. She served on the board of the A.R.S. charity both in Michigan and in Las Vegas. She was one of the first founding members in Las Vegas and gave an impressive introductory speech by heart at one of the conventions that the Las Vegas chapter hosted. Zepur was a very hospitable person, warm, and caring. She always saw the best in others and tried to help others achieve harmony in the workplace and in their personal lives. She avoided conflicts and always tried to make others see the big picture. She was an old-fashioned, traditional woman with traditional values and morals. She tried to always instill these values in her children. She was a family-oriented person who loved entertaining 40-50 people in her home for the holidays. Zepur was a very good-hearted person who was always helping others; whether making side dishes to take to a dinner, sewing repairs to her friend's clothing, or gives rides to co-workers, she never turned down a friend in need. Her daughter referred to her as "the Armenian Martha Stewart." Her caregivers called her "Mother Teresa" and "Ms. Laura." They said, even through her illness, she helped them "more than they helped her." Her family and friends all love her and will miss her deeply. She passed away on April 5, 2021 at 9:02 am with her daughter by her side.
