Obituary

Eugenie Flora Palm Lufting

Eugenie Lufting of 7069 Orange Grove Lane, Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 12, 2021, at the age of 87.  Preceded in death by her young daughter Heidi in 1957, Eugenie is survived by her husband Dicksy, her children Michael, Robert, Carla, and Eddie, Granddaughters Nichole and Alexandria, and Great Granddaughter Kailani.

Eugenie was born in Sigli, Sumatra, Indonesia, on October 24, 1933.  She left Indonesia in 1958 with her husband and two sons Michael and Robert, relocating to Nuiveen, Holland, where she gave birth to daughter Carla.  In 1962 the family immigrated to the United States residing in Inglewood, California where son Eddie was born. Dicksy and Eugenie bought their first home in nearby Lawndale.  Eugenie, aka Jeanie, worked as a quality control inspector, and she and Dicksy later purchased a beautiful home in Santa Clarita, California, where they lived and entertained for 21 years.  She continued part-time work after they retired to Las Vegas, Nevada.   Jeanie became a proud U.S. citizen and demonstrated her patriotism by volunteering at the polls for many elections.

Eugenie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend.  An avid, award-winning bowler, she also enjoyed cooking Indonesian dishes.  She prepared her legendary eggrolls for her bowling team, co-workers, and neighbors.  No holiday or party would be complete without Jeanie's eggrolls, or to Indonesians, lumpia.  Whether Indonesian or American, her home cooking was beyond compare.  Always the life of every party, Jeanie loved to laugh and entertained her guests with many a story.  The gathering hub for family and friends, the Lufting home warmly welcomed visitors from far and near.

Jeanie enjoyed Lady Luck as a close companion.  She had a system for selecting Keno numbers that made her a frequent winner and the sixth sense about slot machines that were ripe for a payout.  When she won 133,333,33 Guilders in the Dutch State lottery in May 1996, she surprised, yet did not surprise, everyone.  But those who knew and loved Eugenie Lufting were the luckiest of all.

The Lufting family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to BrightStar Care and the entire support staff of Nathan Adelson Hospice and special thanks to her caregiver Diane and nurses Sahara, Vic, Norma, CNA Marilyn, and Chaplain Dan Johnson.
